Just thought everyone might want to know that if you need valve reeds Chris Carsons has carbon fiber high performance valve reeds just ordered mine and they were $162.00 shipped with the gaskets and everything you would need including instructions. If your motor starts to sputter when idling change them, I just wish I knew that they were this cheap before my motor wouldn't run.

Good call. Or, you can look in the glove box on Herb's boat. I would bet he has them in there...he has everything else ;D

Chris Carson says that this is a very common problem with an Optimax.

Got the Valve Reeds changed on my boat over the weekend and it didn't take to long, it was about an 6 hour project geting the old ones out and new ones in. I had 5 chipped reed valves and only found 4 pieces in the air plenum so hopefully the other piece blew out the exaust.
Chris Carson told me that the signs that your reed valves need changed are, excessive smoking or rough idle.
